Conservation Commission OKs Ball Field Netting Plan

Conservation · Meeting of July 21, 2026

BOLTON — The Bolton Conservation Commission approved a replacement batting cage for Bolton Youth Baseball and Softball on condition the league re-naturalize four square feet of lawn near a wetland. Chair Brian Berube said the 1972 Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act exempts fencing near resource areas but the town's own bylaw, Chapter 233, does not, requiring mitigation at roughly a two-to-one ratio for the project's four new six-to-eight-inch posts. League president Michael Coviello initially balked, saying "it sounds to me like you want us to reclaim four feet of impervious space," before members clarified no structure removal was needed.

The commission also issued a partial certificate of compliance for a culvert replacement at 0 Berlin Road (DEP #112-0737) and a full certificate of compliance for a completed home at 158-160 Still River Road (DEP #112-0740), both by unanimous roll-call votes. A vote on April 7 meeting minutes failed for lack of quorum after one member abstained.
